Those who have been exposed to asbestos know that they could develop mesothelioma. This is an aggressive type of cancer. It needs to be treated as soon as possible, so people are always on the lookout for different signs and symptoms.

One obvious symptom that something is wrong is if you develop a cough. Could it be that your cough, especially if it’s a dry cough, is a warning sign of mesothelioma?

It depends where the cancer is located

An important thing to note here is that you can have either pleural mesothelioma, which is located in the chest, or you can have peritoneal mesothelioma, which is located in the abdomen.

If you do have the disease that is located in your chest, coughing is one of the most common symptoms. This cancer can impact the lungs and lead to things like shortness of breath. It can also affect the throat and make it feel like it’s hard to swallow. Many people develop a cough at this point.

However, if the disease is located in your abdomen, then you’re not likely going to have a cough. Instead, you may have symptoms like constipation, nausea and vomiting, abdominal swelling and general pain.

The reason that mesothelioma can exist in different places is that it actually affects the tissue that lines certain organs. Some of this tissue is in your chest cavity, around your lungs, but you also have similar tissue in your abdomen.

If you do have mesothelioma, treatment can be very expensive, and you need to know about all of the legal options at your disposal.
